Head of Digital and AI Services

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a senior leader to head its Digital and AI Services Unit. The role will drive the institute’s digital transformation agenda, aligning AI and digital solutions with IITA’s 2024‑2030 Strategy to accelerate agricultural innovation across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of IITA’s Digital and AI Strategy and Transformation Roadmap.
• Lead institutional digital and AI innovation by identifying, prioritising and co‑designing fit‑for‑purpose solutions with scientists, business units, ICT teams and external partners.
• Oversee governance, partnership development and responsible, ethical adoption of AI across research, operations and knowledge management.
• Coordinate with the Digital Working Group and ICT teams to ensure alignment of digital initiatives with organisational priorities.
• Monitor impact, scale successful solutions and embed digital technologies into service delivery for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in digital transformation and AI implementation, preferably in research or agricultural contexts.
• Strong track record of managing cross‑functional teams and multi‑stakeholder collaborations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic roadmaps and drive institutional change.
• Commitment to responsible, ethical AI and inclusive digital innovation.
