Head Nurse, General Medical & Surgical Services

About the role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking a Head Nurse to lead nursing operations for its General Medical and Surgical Services. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, you will ensure high‑quality, safe patient care across Accident & Emergency, internal medicine and general wards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor nursing strategies, budgets and policies for general medical and surgical services.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, allocate resources and delegate staff responsibilities to maintain optimal patient care.
• Review and improve clinical procedures, conduct regular audits and produce activity analysis reports.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, corporate policies and local laws, maintaining accurate records and confidentiality.
• Drive equality and diversity initiatives, overseeing recruitment, retention and staff development programmes.
• Communicate nursing performance updates to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

Required profile

• Extensive nursing experience in general medical and surgical settings, with proven leadership in a hospital environment.
• Strong knowledge of governance, risk assessment and quality improvement processes, and ability to work collaboratively with senior clinicians.
