GESI Director, Climate-Smart Agriculture Nigeria

About the role

Mercy Corps Nigeria, based in Abuja, is looking for a Gender, Social and Inclusion (GESI) Director for its Climate-Smart Agriculture programme. The Director provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for gender equality, social inclusion, youth empowerment and safeguarding across programme activities, ensuring inclusive, equitable and participant-centred approaches are built into design, implementation, learning and partner engagement. The position is contingent on donor funding.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of programme-wide GESI and safeguarding strategies aligned with Mercy Corps standards, donor requirements and national frameworks.
• Integrate gender-transformative, youth-centred, disability-inclusive and safeguarding approaches throughout the programme lifecycle, from design and partner onboarding to closeout.
• Act as principal advisor to programme leadership and partners on GESI, youth inclusion, protection and safeguarding risks and opportunities.
• Build team members' and partners' capacity to integrate a GESI perspective and raise awareness of its importance.
• Conduct a gender analysis to guide implementation and ensure men, women, girls and boys have equitable opportunities.
• Identify, assess and mitigate gender, inclusion, protection and safeguarding risks, and set standards, tools, indicators and accountability mechanisms to track outcomes.
• Develop GESI capacity-building interventions for staff and support training for project participants, while monitoring field activities and coaching staff.
• Document processes and achievements, and share learnings and best practices internally and externally.
• Build partnerships with implementing partners, donors, local governments, civil society and the private sector, and represent the programme externally on GESI matters.
• Work with the country team's security focal point to protect the safety of team members and ensure activities reflect security analysis.
