Finance Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer will support effective financial management of Evidence Action’s programmes and operations by ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions, reconciliations, budget monitoring, and reporting. The role provides day‑to‑day finance support to programme and management teams, maintains accurate records, and contributes to compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements, and statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments, invoices, staff advances and expense claims in line with approved policies.
• Review supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy and appropriate approvals before processing.
• Assist with accounting entries, expense coding and posting transactions into the accounting system.
• Perform monthly bank, cash and staff‑advance reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
• Prepare financial schedules, expenditure summaries and budget updates for management and donor reporting.
• Monitor programme expenditures against approved budgets and flag potential overruns.
• Manage procurement processes, vendor invoices and payments, maintaining accurate vendor records.
• Support internal and external audit preparation, responding to queries and ensuring documentation is audit‑ready.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (professional qualification such as ACA/ACCA a plus).
• 1–2 years of experience in accounting or finance support, preferably within an NGO or similar organisation.
• Basic knowledge of financial accounting, transaction processing, reconciliations and budget monitoring.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial/accounting systems.
• Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, organisational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
