Fiber Implementation Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Fiber Implementation Engineer to join Ultec’s telecom team in Lagos. The role involves planning, installing and commissioning fiber optic networks for FTTx projects, ensuring high‑quality delivery on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct fiber route surveys and develop network plans.
• Design and implement FTTx (Fiber‑to‑the‑X) solutions.
• Coordinate and supervise fiber optic cable installation, splicing and termination.
• Perform OTDR, power meter and end‑to‑end fiber testing.
• Prepare as‑built documentation, route maps and technical reports.
• Troubleshoot and resolve fiber network faults and performance issues.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors and internal project teams while complying with HSE/QA requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fiber optic implementation or telecommunications infrastructure.
• Ability to work independently and travel to project locations as required.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and project coordination skills.

Required skills

• FTTx design and implementation.
• GPON, Metro Ethernet and backbone fiber network knowledge.
• Hands‑on fiber splicing and testing.
• Proficiency with OTDR, Optical Power Meter and Fusion Splicer equipment.
• Interpretation of network drawings and GIS/AutoCAD designs.
