Facilities Officer – Technical

About the role

The Facilities Officer – Technical will support the Facility Management Department at GDNL Terminal ‘E’ in Apapa, ensuring that all building systems and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in line with operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, and other utility systems.
• Monitor equipment performance, conduct routine inspections and identify maintenance needs.
• Supervise contractors and service providers, review maintenance reports and close work orders.
• Support planning and execution of facility upgrade and improvement projects.
• Maintain technical records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
• Assist in preparing technical specifications, scopes of work and Bills of Engineering Measurement & Evaluation (BEME).
• Promote energy‑efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
• Liaise with Engineering, HSE, Security and Operations teams on infrastructure matters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering or a related technical field.
• 2–4 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction or building services engineering.
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience supervising contractors and managing maintenance service providers.
• Professional certification or membership with COREN, NSE or IFMA is an advantage.

Required skills

• AutoCAD or equivalent drawing software (ability to create and read technical drawings).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance reporting systems.
• Knowledge of building systems: electrical, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical infrastructure.
• Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and asset reliability management.
