Design Engineer – Fire Protection Systems

About the role

NAFFCO Nigeria is looking for a Design Engineer to develop compliant, practical, and buildable fire‑fighting, fire alarm and life‑safety systems. You will be involved from tender‑stage calculations through to installation support and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design fire‑fighting systems including sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps, deluge, water‑spray, foam and clean‑agent systems.
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pump sizing, fire‑water storage assessments and clean‑agent quantity calculations.
• Design fire alarm, detection, public address/voice evacuation, emergency lighting and exit signage, including device layouts and cause‑and‑effect matrices.
• Prepare design basis reports, shop drawings, schematics and BIM/Revit models, ensuring coordination with other MEP services.
• Compile material submittals with UL/FM/LPCB/CE certificates and support the estimation team’s BOQs.
• Review client and consultant comments, respond to RFIs and revise drawings according to document control procedures.
• Provide on‑site support during installation, testing and commissioning, and review as‑built drawings.

Required profile

• Graduate in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of design experience in fire‑fighting, fire alarm and life‑safety systems.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72 and 101; familiarity with BS 5839, BS 5266 or EN 54 is a plus.
• Ability to interpret project specifications and deliver accurate, well‑coordinated documentation within deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with hydraulic calculation software.
• Knowledge of BIM/Revit (preferred).
