Data Scientist - AI and Quant

About the role

ATAfrica is looking for a Data Scientist to join its team in Nigeria. The role sits within the AI and Quant area and involves building machine learning models and statistical methods to solve complex trading problems, working with cross-functional teams and communicating results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine learning models, algorithms and statistical methods to solve complex trading problems.
• Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends and insights that inform trading decisions.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management and Marketing to turn findings into actionable strategies.
• Maintain and optimize data pipelines, ensuring data quality and integrity.
• Communicate findings through visualizations, presentations and written reports.
• Stay up to date with the latest data science and fintech technologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in a data science role, preferably in fintech.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical people.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python.
• Data science libraries such as TensorFlow, scikit-learn and Pandas.
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
• Statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms and data mining.
