Data Engineer – Fintech Payments Platform

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is looking for a Data Engineer to design, build, and extend data platforms at scale. You will work in a remote‑first, hybrid environment, creating robust pipelines for data ingestion, processing, storage, and egress while maintaining the underlying infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and streaming solutions.
• Implement and manage data ingestion, transformation, and storage workflows.
• Operate and optimize infrastructure using Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Integrate streaming technologies such as Kafka, Debezium, and Kafka Connect.
• Orchestrate pipelines with tools like Apache Airflow, Databricks, Dagster or Airbyte.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, BigQuery, SingleStore).
• Set up CI/CD pipelines and ensure unit/integration testing coverage.
• Support BI reporting tools (Tableau, Looker, DOMO) and collaborate with data science teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of data engineering experience and 2 years of software development.
• Strong background in Python development; JavaScript and Scala are a plus.
• Hands‑on experience with streaming platforms (Kafka ecosystem).
• Proficiency in cloud concepts, preferably AWS.
• Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and container orchestration.
