Data Engineer – Fintech (Hybrid, Nigeria)

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is looking for a Data Engineer to join their Data Engineering team. The role is hybrid, based in Nigeria, and involves building scalable data platforms that support online and offline payment processing, operations management, and business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines for ingestion, processing, storage, and egress.
• Implement streaming solutions using Kafka, Debezium, and Kafka Connect.
• Orchestrate workflows with Apache Airflow or comparable tools (Databricks, Dagster, Airbyte).
• Manage relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, and optionally BigQuery or SingleStore.
• Provision and maintain infrastructure using Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm on AWS.
• Write complex SQL queries, develop unit and integration tests, and support CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with data science and BI teams, providing data for analytical models and self‑service reporting tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of data engineering experience and 2 years of software development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and ability to work independently in a remote‑first environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Python (essential); JavaScript, Scala (advantageous).
• Kafka, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
