Coordinator, Choral & Creative Performance

About the role

The Coordinator, Choral and Creative Performance leads the university’s choir and oversees spoken‑word, poetry, dramatic reading, storytelling and related live‑performance programmes. Reporting to Student Affairs, the role develops a vibrant, inclusive and high‑performing creative arts programme that supports university ceremonies, celebrates Nigeria’s cultural heritage and enhances AUN’s distinctive identity.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, audition, organise and retain a diverse student choir; plan and conduct rehearsals, vocal warm‑ups, sectional practices and individual coaching.
• Select, arrange and prepare sacred, secular, classical, Nigerian, African and international repertoire aligned with university values.
• Prepare and coordinate choir performances for Convocation, Pledge Ceremony, Founder’s Day, Commencement, official visits and community engagements.
• Identify, mentor and coordinate students interested in spoken‑word, poetry, dramatic readings and storytelling; organise workshops and developmental activities.
• Develop and schedule showcases, open‑mic sessions and collaborative performances, integrating creative works into university events.
• Maintain an organized repository of scores, scripts, recordings and related materials, ensuring compliance with copyright requirements.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Marketing, Events, Facilities and external partners to manage logistics, technical needs and promotional activities.
• Prepare annual work plans, budgets, equipment requests and post‑event reports, monitoring expenditure and resource utilisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, English/Literature, Creative Arts, Fine Arts or a related discipline; Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Minimum three years of professional experience directing choirs, vocal ensembles or multidisciplinary creative‑performance programmes.
• Proven ability to plan and deliver rehearsals, performances, workshops and live events for university‑level audiences.
• Experience coordinating performance logistics such as venues, technical requirements, costumes, transportation and equipment.
• Demonstrated experience working with university students or youth‑focused programmes in a multicultural environment.
