Consultant Urologist (Senior) - Lagos

About the role

A leading healthcare institution in Abuja, represented by a recruiter, is looking for an experienced Consultant Urologist to join its specialist medical team. The role covers comprehensive urological care, including advanced diagnostics, medical management, minimally invasive and open surgery, and emergency interventions. It is a full-time, senior position reporting to the Medical Director / Chief Medical Officer, with accommodation provided.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist consultation, diagnosis and management of urinary tract and male reproductive conditions
• Perform and oversee laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures, including prostatectomy, nephrectomy, cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, TURP and stone removal
• Manage kidney and urinary stones, prostate diseases, urinary incontinence and urological cancers
• Handle emergency cases such as acute urinary retention, renal colic and urological trauma
• Conduct outpatient consultations, inpatient reviews, ward rounds and post-operative follow-up
• Supervise junior doctors, medical officers and surgical trainees, and lead clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews and quality improvement
• Collaborate with radiologists, oncologists, anaesthetists and general surgeons; maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with infection prevention and surgical safety standards
• Take part in on-call and emergency services, and contribute to clinical protocols, community health programmes and professional development

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent from a recognised institution
• Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in Urology or an equivalent specialist qualification
• Full registration and a valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)
• At least 5 years of post-fellowship specialist urology experience
• Proven experience in advanced urological surgery and complex or emergency cases; tertiary hospital experience preferred
• International certification such as FEBU is an advantage

Required skills

• Laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive urological surgery
• Advanced clinical judgement, emergency response and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Patient counselling and communication
