Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Full‑time, Abuja)

About the role

A reputable multi‑specialist hospital in Nigeria is seeking a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to deliver specialist care across the patient pathway. The role involves leading assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in outpatient, inpatient and referral settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of obstetrics and gynaecology cases, including complex referrals.
• Supervise, teach and support the training and development of senior medical officers, medical officers and trainees.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient‑safety activities.
• Coordinate care with other specialties, diagnostics, pharmacy, nursing, allied health and managed‑care functions, applying evidence‑based, cost‑effective practice.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and ensure current MDCN registration/licence.

Required profile

• MBBS or MBChB with a registrable postgraduate fellowship in obstetrics & gynaecology.
• Minimum three years of post‑fellowship specialist experience in the discipline.
• Current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.

Required skills

• Comprehensive specialist knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology across acute and chronic presentations.
• Ability to manage complex cases and provide senior clinical judgement.
• Sound understanding of clinical governance, audit, patient safety and evidence‑based practice.
• Effective communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Competent use of hospital clinical systems and accurate clinical record‑keeping.
