Consultant Internal Medicine Physician

About the role

The Internal Medicine Physician will join the General Medical and Surgical Services department of the African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja. This senior clinical role focuses on comprehensive adult care, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of internal organ diseases. The physician will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred services tailored to the Nigerian population.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including detailed medical histories and physical examinations.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, handling complex cases with multiple comorbidities.
• Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests such as laboratory work and imaging studies.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical guidelines and patient preferences.
• Prescribe medications, monitor therapeutic effects, and adjust regimens as needed.
• Provide preventive care services, including immunizations and health screenings.
• Educate patients on their conditions and promote lifestyle modifications for better health outcomes.
• Collaborate with specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date medical records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives, research projects, and clinical trials.
• Mentor and supervise junior medical staff and interns, fostering their professional development.
