Chief Engineer – Power (Caterpillar) & Electrical

About the role

IFS is building West Africa’s most reliable maintenance and facility management company and seeks a senior engineer with deep Caterpillar generator expertise. Based in Lagos, you will own the technical integrity of complex power infrastructures across Nigeria, Ghana and the wider region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide full technical ownership of integrated power systems, including national grid supply, solar‑PV hybrid plants, CAT/CUMMINS/PERKINS diesel generator sets and automated ATS/AMF switching.
• Lead daily operation, optimisation and preventive maintenance of HV/LV distribution networks, UPS and battery backup systems.
• Monitor generator loading, fuel consumption, efficiency and solar utilisation to minimise diesel use.
• Manage diesel procurement, storage, reconciliation and reporting.
• Ensure statutory electrical inspections and compliance with earthing and lightning protection standards.
• Act as the single point of technical authority for client facilities, communicating complex issues to senior executives.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience with Caterpillar generators (500‑5000 kVA) and other major diesel brands.
• Strong background in power‑system engineering, solar‑PV hybrid solutions and building management systems.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor engineering talent.
• Excellent problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to fault detection and resolution.
