Backend Tech Lead (.NET / C#)

About the role

This is a full‑time hybrid position based in Lagos, focused on leading the backend development of a high‑traffic betting and gaming platform. The Backend Tech Lead will design, build and maintain scalable services and APIs while ensuring security, performance, and close collaboration with product and frontend teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of core backend services such as wallet, bet engine, live betting, user identity, copy‑bet infrastructure, and social feed.
• Own the technical architecture across .NET 8+, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and AWS/EKS.
• Set and enforce engineering standards including code reviews, system design, testing, observability, and deployment practices.
• Mentor and grow a team of senior backend engineers through 1:1s, design reviews, and pairing.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to translate features into reliable, scalable system designs.
• Drive incident response, post‑mortems, and continuous reliability improvements.
• Remain an active individual contributor, writing and reviewing code alongside the team.

Required profile

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech‑lead or principal‑engineer role.
• Deep expertise in C# and .NET (preferably .NET 6+ / .NET 8).
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, event‑driven architecture, and data modelling.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka (or equivalent message broker).
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS; experience with Kubernetes/EKS is a strong plus.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising technical standards.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across product, mobile, and frontend teams.
• Experience in fintech, gaming, or high‑transaction‑volume platforms is a strong advantage.
