Associate Medical Laboratory Scientist

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist supports patient care by performing and interpreting laboratory tests. The role demands strong technical expertise, strict adherence to quality and safety standards, and contributes to the laboratory’s Quality Management System.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, label, and safely store blood, urine, tissue and other samples.
• Operate microscopes, analyzers and other laboratory equipment, ensuring proper function before and after use.
• Perform tests accurately, double‑check results, and document findings clearly.
• Maintain a clean, germ‑free laboratory environment and dispose of waste and sharps safely.
• Communicate urgent results promptly to physicians and keep comprehensive records.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS) or BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
• Current practising licence from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
• Completed NYSC with discharge certificate or exemption.
• Residence within 10 km of the assigned clinic or ability to commute daily.

Required skills

• Operation of microscopes and laboratory analyzers.
• Use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software.
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) – certification is a plus.
