Assistant Technical Officer – Pharmacy

About the role

The Assistant Technical Officer – Pharmacy will support the delivery of integrated health, nutrition and protection interventions for internally displaced persons in Borno State. Reporting to the Technical Officer, Health and Nutrition Services, the role involves preparing, dispensing and managing pharmaceuticals for both in‑patients and out‑patients.

Key responsibilities

• Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality patient care to a vulnerable population.
• Carry out inspection duties under the Poisons and Pharmacist’s Act, Dangerous Drug Act and Food and Drug Decree.
• Dispense prescribed medications to in‑ and out‑patients while providing accurate medication advice.
• Maintain pharmacy stores, keep relevant records and ensure proper storage and issuance of all drugs.
• Prepare extemporaneous medicaments such as mixtures, lotions, ointments and syrups.
• Provide technical information and advice to other health professionals.
• Participate in routine quality‑control audits of all stocked drugs.
• Collect baseline data with technical support and M&E teams and compile periodic reports.
• Ensure infection prevention and control standards are maintained at all times.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Sound knowledge of inventory control systems.
• Experience managing health‑commodity logistics information systems, including forecasting and quantification of medical commodities.
• Understanding of key principles and approaches to health systems.
• Adherence to relevant codes of conduct and ethics.
