Anticipatory Action Coordinator (Nigeria)

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a National Anticipatory Action Coordinator to lead the Scaling Anticipatory Action for Displacement (SAAD) project in Nigeria. Based in Abuja, the role will oversee the integration of machine‑learning displacement forecasts with community‑based early warning, protection monitoring and conflict‑sensitive planning to shift humanitarian response from reaction to prevention.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and coordination leadership for the SAAD project, reporting to the DRC Nigeria Head of Programme.
• Link displacement forecasts to existing early‑warning systems and trigger pre‑agreed anticipatory measures when thresholds are met.
• Coordinate with protection, peacebuilding and cash‑assistance teams to design and implement conflict‑prevention interventions.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of anticipatory actions and adjust strategies accordingly.
• Represent DRC in national and regional working groups on anticipatory action for displacement.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., International Relations, Development Studies, Humanitarian Affairs) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience in humanitarian coordination, displacement monitoring or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience with early‑warning systems and protection monitoring in conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret displacement forecasts.

Required skills
