Anaesthesiologist – CEmONC Capacity Building Consultancy

About the role
This consultancy engages a qualified anaesthesiologist to deliver safe obstetric anaesthesia training for healthcare workers in selected Nigerian states. The consultant will lead 2‑day training sessions aimed at strengthening CEmONC (Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care) services and improving maternal and newborn outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, organize and conduct 2‑day safe obstetric anaesthesia training sessions for doctors, nurses, midwives and anaesthetic nurses.
- Develop and adapt evidence‑based training materials covering pre‑operative assessment, anaesthesia management for planned and emergency Caesarean sections, intra‑operative monitoring and post‑operative care.
- Assess participants’ competency against minimum standards and provide on‑site mentorship.
- Collaborate with Jhpiego, state health ministries and the Federal Ministry of Health to ensure alignment with national CEmONC guidelines.
- Document training outcomes and submit regular progress reports.
Required profile
- Medical degree with specialist qualification in Anaesthesiology.
- Registered and licensed to practice in Nigeria or an equivalent jurisdiction.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in obstetric anaesthesia, including emergency Caesarean sections.
- Proven experience in delivering clinical training or capacity‑building programmes.
- Willingness to work in low‑resource settings and travel within the assigned states.
