Advocacy and Community Liaison Officer

About the role

The Advocacy and Community Liaison Officer will design and implement advocacy and community engagement strategies that increase program visibility, strengthen government relations, and ensure community participation in IRC’s humanitarian programmes in Nigeria. The role acts as a bridge between IRC, affected communities, government ministries, civil society and other partners to promote evidence‑based advocacy and accountable programming.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of advocacy plans aligned with country programme priorities.
• Facilitate engagement with government ministries, local leaders, NGOs and humanitarian actors.
• Coordinate community feedback mechanisms and ensure community voices inform programme design.
• Generate evidence and policy briefs to influence local and national policies.
• Map stakeholders and maintain strategic relationships to enhance IRC’s external positioning.
• Collaborate with programming, MEAL, protection, communications and field teams to align advocacy with field realities.
• Promote accountability to affected populations and monitor community relations.

Required profile

• Experience in advocacy, community liaison or stakeholder engagement, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of government structures and civil society dynamics in Nigeria.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills with diverse audiences.
• Ability to produce evidence‑based reports and policy briefs.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
