Account Payable Officer

About the role

The Account Payable Officer will manage the end‑to‑end processing of vendor invoices, payment certificates and purchase orders for El‑Precious Consulting. The role ensures timely, accurate payments while maintaining strong vendor relationships and supporting month‑end close activities.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify and process vendor invoices, contractor payment certificates and purchase orders, ensuring three‑way matching with GRNs.
• Prepare and execute payment runs (NEFT, SWIFT, cheques) according to approved schedules and cash‑flow plans.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date vendor ledger, reconcile accounts and prevent duplicate or erroneous payments.
• Resolve invoice disputes, short payments and vendor queries promptly.
• Apply statutory deductions (WHT, VAT) correctly and remit them to the FIRS.
• Prepare monthly AP ageing reports and creditor schedules for management review.
• Process staff expense claims and travel advances in line with company policy.
• Liaise with Procurement to resolve PO discrepancies and coordinate contract variation approvals.
• Support month‑end close by accruing payables and assisting with audit schedules.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA) in progress or completed – an advantage.
• 3–5 years of accounts payable experience, preferably in oil & gas, energy or engineering.
• Knowledge of Nigerian WHT and VAT obligations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Tally or Oracle.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
