SRH/GBV Engagement Officer

About the role

The SRH/GBV Engagement Officer will support the International Rescue Committee’s effort to increase access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender‑based violence (GBV) services for women, girls, adolescents and other vulnerable groups affected by conflict and displacement in Nigeria. Reporting to the Roving SRH Manager, the Officer will act as a vital link between communities, health facilities and referral partners, ensuring survivors understand and safely reach the services they need.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead community activities that raise awareness of SRH and GBV services and encourage uptake.
• Collaborate with community health workers, volunteers, women’s and youth groups, and religious or traditional leaders to share accurate information.
• Organise community meetings and small‑group discussions on SRH, GBV prevention, available services and referral pathways.
• Identify barriers to service access (social, cultural, financial, distance) and work with programme teams to devise realistic solutions.
• Promote informed, voluntary, and respectful access to family planning, maternal health and GBV support services while protecting survivor safety.
• Ensure all outreach is inclusive of different ages, genders, abilities, languages and literacy levels, with special attention to adolescents, persons with disabilities and displaced populations.
• Support safe, confidential referrals and maintain up‑to‑date information on health, GBV case management, psychosocial, legal and child protection services.
• Strengthen links between community groups and IRC‑supported or government health facilities, facilitating two‑way communication and addressing service‑delivery challenges.
