Specialist Nurse – Radiation Oncology

About the role

The Specialist Nurse – Radiation Oncology provides expert nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy. This role focuses on patient assessment, treatment coordination, side‑effect management, and patient education to support individuals throughout their cancer treatment journey.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, monitor treatment responses, and document medical history and symptoms.
• Collaborate with oncologists and radiation therapists to develop individualized care plans and prepare patients for therapy sessions.
• Educate patients and families on radiation procedures, potential side effects, and post‑treatment care, providing counseling and resources.
• Ensure compliance with radiation safety, infection control, and proper handling/disposal of radioactive materials.
• Maintain accurate patient records, report changes or adverse events, and contribute to clinical protocol development.
• Participate in continuing education, mentor junior staff, and engage in research initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or diploma with post‑basic oncology training.
• Valid practising licence and membership in relevant nursing associations.
• Minimum 3 years clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in oncology or chemotherapy administration.
• In‑depth knowledge of radiation therapy principles, oncology terminology, and patient‑centered care.
• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
