Solar PV Design Engineer / AutoCAD Designer

About the role

A three-month part-time, fixed-term engagement is sought for a Solar PV Design Engineer / AutoCAD Designer in Lagos, Nigeria. The work is hybrid, with 3 days on-site and 2 days remote per week, and pays between N300,000 and N400,000 per month depending on experience and technical competence. The ideal candidate has practical experience designing solar photovoltaic systems and preparing technical drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and project cost estimates.

Key responsibilities

• Design and size solar PV systems according to project requirements, energy demand and site conditions.
• Use PVsyst for system simulation, performance analysis and energy yield assessment.
• Use HOMER Pro to model and optimise energy systems, including hybrid solar and battery storage.
• Prepare detailed PV layouts, electrical drawings and technical design plans in AutoCAD.
• Prepare BOQs, material schedules and cost estimates.
• Interpret site assessment reports, load profiles and technical specifications.
• Evaluate components such as panels, inverters and batteries, and ensure designs meet electrical and PV design standards.
• Collaborate with project and engineering teams to review designs.

Required profile

• Degree or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in solar PV system design.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and deliver accurate technical outputs.

Required skills

• Proficiency in PVsyst, HOMER Pro and AutoCAD; only candidates showing practical experience with all three will be considered.
• Knowledge of PV sizing, battery storage, hybrid systems and energy calculations.
• Experience preparing BOQs, material schedules and cost estimates.
