Senior POS Mobile Engineer

About the role

Moniepoint is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to design, build, and maintain high‑performance Android‑based POS terminal applications that handle large‑scale transaction volumes. You will work closely with architects, backend engineers, product managers, and hardware teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable POS features.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Android POS terminal applications using Kotlin/Java.
• Own end‑to‑end development of transaction flows such as sales, refunds, reversals, and settlement.
• Integrate with backend APIs and ensure reliable synchronization, including offline‑first capabilities.
• Integrate EMV chip, NFC contactless, and card‑present payment flows while adhering to encryption and key‑management standards.
• Maintain support for POS peripherals (card readers, pin pads, printers, scanners) via Bluetooth, USB, and OEM SDKs.
• Write clean, testable code, participate in code reviews, and improve CI/CD pipelines.
• Debug, monitor, and optimise performance in production environments.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with product, QA, and backend teams and mentor mid‑level engineers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of Android app development experience.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Strong expertise in Android native development (Kotlin/Java) and experience building POS terminal applications.
• Solid understanding of EMV standards and card‑present transaction flows.
• Experience integrating payment SDKs, hardware peripherals, and working with REST APIs, WebSockets, and background sync mechanisms.
• Proficiency with local storage solutions such as Room or SQLite.
• Strong debugging and performance‑optimization skills and knowledge of secure coding practices in financial systems.
• Experience in fintech or high‑transaction environments; exposure to cross‑platform frameworks like Flutter is a plus.
