About the role
The Senior Legal Counsel will manage and administer legal matters for HBM Nigeria’s Cement, A&C and HBM Eco operations across multiple locations, supporting the Legal Director and Company Secretary in handling disputes, regulatory issues and contract matters.
Key responsibilities
- Lead litigation strategy and manage active lawsuits, pre‑litigation claims and regulatory inquiries.
- Draft, review and advise on contracts ensuring compliance with statutory and legal requirements.
- Oversee external law firms, set case strategies and control legal budgets.
- Provide legal advisory to business units, conduct risk assessments and support compliance initiatives.
Required profile
- Minimum 5 years post‑call litigation experience, preferably from a top law firm.
- Experience in a multinational environment or commercial law firm is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate governance, competition and regulatory law.
Required skills
- Litigation management and dispute resolution.
- Contract drafting and review.
- Legal risk assessment and compliance.
- Negotiation and settlement of claims.
