Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

Our client, a technology company delivering payment solutions across Africa, is seeking a Senior Legal Associate to join its Legal team. You will ensure that the company’s products and operations comply with legal, regulatory and ethical standards while supporting a fast‑growing, high‑impact environment.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries and playbooks to drive consistency and efficiency.
• Maintain audit‑ready contract repositories and documentation systems.
• Provide legal support for corporate governance, litigation, regulatory compliance and advisory matters.
• Collaborate with fraud/dispute, HR, finance, sales, product, engineering and customer support teams to address cross‑functional legal issues.
• Drive process improvements and scalable legal workflows using legal technology tools.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience in the financial services or fintech sector is a strong asset.
• Tech‑savvy with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.
• Project‑management mindset with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Analytical, action‑oriented and capable of exercising sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
• Positive, collaborative attitude and a good sense of humor.
