Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Chowdeck is an on‑demand food delivery service for Africa. We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to build and evolve the API infrastructure that powers our customer, vendor and rider applications. Our stack includes NodeJS, MySQL, Redis, AWS and Google Cloud.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain features and improvements on our APIs, services, and systems.
• Solve technical problems of varying scope, including performance enhancements.
• Debug and fix production issues across services.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Frontend, UX and other stakeholders to maintain high quality in a fast‑paced environment.
• Work with engineers across the company to deliver new features at scale.
• Identify technical debt, propose and implement better standards, tooling, and processes.

Required profile

• Significant professional experience building large, highly available systems and experience as a team or technical lead.
• Fundamental knowledge of Node, JavaScript, and MySQL.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, testable code for high‑scale web environments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a focus on speed, performance, and quality.
• Excellent communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Deep focus on customer satisfaction and experience.
