Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Droomwork is building Africa’s first complete HR infrastructure and needs a Senior Backend Engineer to design and deliver core backend services for its payroll, hiring, and workforce management platforms. This is a six‑month on‑site contract based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain highly scalable micro‑service backend systems using API‑first principles.
• Design distributed systems that handle millions of payroll and talent‑management transactions.
• Build secure RESTful APIs, webhooks, event‑driven services, and SDKs for internal teams and external partners.
• Implement robust authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, and multi‑tenant models.
• Develop event‑driven architectures with message queues and streaming technologies.
• Create integrations with payment gateways, banking APIs, tax authorities, ERP platforms, and HRIS solutions.
• Design resilient data architectures with PostgreSQL, SQL and NoSQL databases, employing replication, sharding, and caching.
• Lead adoption of Domain‑Driven Design, Clean Architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Build AI‑ready infrastructure for intelligent workflows and predictive analytics.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployments, and cloud‑native environments using Docker and Kubernetes.

Required profile

• 6+ years of production‑grade backend development experience.
• Proven ability to design and deliver large‑scale micro‑service architectures.
• Experience with on‑site, full‑time contract work for a minimum of six months.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑moving startup.
