Senior Associate I – Energy & Mining (Lagos)

About the role

AGC Legal is seeking a Senior Associate I to join its Energy & Mining practice in Lagos. The role offers the chance to lead complex transactions, regulatory matters and sector‑focused advisory work for leading clients in Nigeria’s energy and natural resources industries.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on complex commercial, transactional and regulatory matters across the energy and mining sectors.
• Draft, review and negotiate sophisticated commercial and specialist agreements.
• Lead contractual risk reviews, identify material issues and develop practical solutions.
• Manage legal due‑diligence exercises for transactions, projects and M&A mandates.
• Provide regulatory compliance advice and keep clients updated on developments.
• Lead client meetings, negotiations and deliver strategic legal advice.
• Supervise and mentor associate‑level lawyers, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Collaborate with partners and senior associates on multi‑disciplinary mandates and contribute to thought leadership.

Required profile

• 5–8 years post‑call experience with a strong foundation in commercial contracts and transactional or regulatory practice.
• LL.B. and admission to the Nigerian Bar.
• Demonstrated experience in energy, oil & gas, electricity, mining, infrastructure or natural resources sectors.
• Proven ability to manage complex client matters with autonomy and leadership.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or coordinating junior lawyers.
