Senior Advisor, Child Health

About the role

The Senior Advisor, Child Health will provide technical and strategic support to strengthen health systems across Save the Children’s programmes in Nigeria. Working within the Survive Breakthrough team, the role delivers country‑driven assistance, develops tools and guidance, and ensures interventions are inclusive and aligned with global priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized technical guidance to country offices on health systems strengthening, focusing on sub‑thematic areas.
• Review awards and ensure compliance with donor requirements and organisational policies.
• Support the design and quality assurance of capacity‑building and training initiatives for national and local partners.
• Lead the development and coordination of partnership strategies with local actors, authorities and peer agencies.
• Participate in internal and external working groups to capture best practices and institutionalise learning.
• Manage global and multi‑country projects to develop programme guidance, tools and evidence.
• Deploy to priority countries for emergency response, providing in‑person technical support (up to 40% travel).
• Promote diversity, equity and inclusion within all programme activities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in child health and health systems strengthening, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to provide technical guidance to multi‑disciplinary teams and to ensure donor compliance.
• Strong experience in designing and delivering capacity‑building programmes for partners.
• Demonstrated skill in developing partnership strategies with governments, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, including emergency deployments.
• Commitment to Save the Children’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
