Safety Specialist – Manufacturing

About the role

The Safety Specialist reports directly to the Plant Safety Manager and provides real‑time shift‑level supervision across Coca‑Cola HBC manufacturing sites in Nigeria. The role ensures strict adherence to safety standards, proactively identifies hazards, and guarantees that daily operations comply with federal and state regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor factory floors, material cavities, and loading docks to ensure compliance with fleet safety requirements.
• Inspect high‑risk equipment such as hydraulic presses, balers, and conveyors, and verify proper use of PPE (steel‑toe boots, hard hats, goggles).
• Audit Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) points and Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) compliance, halting any unsafe processes immediately.
• Log accidents and inspection records in line with the Nigeria Factories Act.
• Conduct daily safety briefings and serve as floor warden during fires or chemical spills.
• Test eye‑wash stations, fire exits, and first‑aid kits on a weekly basis.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for minor injuries or equipment faults and drive corrective actions.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or HND in Engineering, Sciences, or a related field.
• Registered member of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) and HSE Level 3 certification (or equivalent).
• 1–3 years of hands‑on safety marshalling experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience working around moving machinery, automated conveyors, high‑voltage systems, or forklift traffic.
• Fluent in English with strong communication skills to influence floor personnel.
