Safeguarding Officer – Child Protection

About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will support the practical implementation of Nutrition International’s safeguarding framework at programme level, identifying and mitigating risks, building the capacity of staff and partners, providing a safe and confidential reporting channel, monitoring compliance, and delivering survivor‑centred responses.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and maintain safeguarding risk assessments across all programme activities, develop mitigation actions and track them in risk registers.
• Provide a confidential reporting channel, receive and triage concerns within 24 hours, coordinate referrals and support survivors according to NI’s survivor‑centred approach.
• Assess and strengthen implementing partners’ safeguarding capacity, ensure compliance with NI’s code of conduct and reporting obligations.
• Deliver safeguarding inductions, awareness sessions and refresher training for staff, partners, consultants, volunteers and visitors.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in sociology, social work, community development, gender and development studies, law or a related field.
• Minimum four years of relevant experience in safeguarding, PSEAH, child protection, gender‑based violence programming or safe programming, preferably with an international NGO operating in Nigeria.
