Resident Doctor/Registrar – General Medical & Surgical Services

About the role

The Resident Doctor/Registrar will deliver comprehensive medical and surgical care to a diverse patient population, working under senior consultants and within multidisciplinary teams. The role involves diagnosing acute and chronic conditions, performing procedures, and contributing to clinical education and research.

Key responsibilities

• Perform initial patient assessments, including history‑taking, physical examination and diagnostic testing.
• Diagnose and manage a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions, develop and monitor treatment plans, and perform minor and major surgical procedures.
• Provide emergency medical and surgical interventions, including life‑saving procedures such as CPR and intubation.
• Document patient interactions accurately and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and smooth flow of care.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) with a valid medical license and registration.
• Minimum three years post‑qualification experience as a medical doctor; 1–2 years in internal/family/emergency medicine preferred.
• Completion of a residency program or passed the first part of residency examinations.
• Membership in relevant medical associations (e.g., Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria).

Required skills

• Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic abilities.
• Proficiency in surgical assisting and performing procedures.
• Competence with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Basic and advanced life support certification.
