Reporter – Full‑time, Lagos

About the role

Mortem Media is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Reporter to join its Lagos newsroom. You will research, gather and verify information for news stories and features that resonate with the company’s audience. The role combines field reporting with digital content creation to support the brand’s content strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Research, gather and verify information for news stories and features.
• Attend events and conduct interviews to generate original content.
• Monitor digital channels for story leads and trends.
• Produce written articles and multimedia pieces (photo, audio, video) for online platforms.
• Collaborate with editors, follow editorial guidelines and meet deadlines.
• Maintain ethical reporting standards and ensure accuracy.

Required profile

• Strong reporting and news‑writing abilities with clear, accurate storytelling.
• Excellent communication skills, including interviewing and audience‑focused writing.
• Proficiency with basic multimedia tools for photo, audio, and video production.
• Ability to work on‑site in Lagos and collaborate within a newsroom environment.
• Solid understanding of journalism ethics, fact‑checking and accuracy standards.
• Comfort with digital platforms, social media and content management systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or equivalent practical experience.
• Prior experience in reporting or digital media production is an advantage.
