Protection Coordinator – Internal Only

About the role

The Protection Coordinator leads the International Rescue Committee’s protection portfolio in Nigeria, overseeing child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and protection & rule of law streams. The role provides strategic direction, technical guidance and team leadership to ensure safety outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for protection programming across child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and protection & rule of law in Nigeria.
• Develop and manage the Nigeria Safety Outcome Strategy, ensuring alignment with IRC’s overall safety outcomes and humanitarian standards.
• Lead program design, budgeting, donor proposal development and monitoring to grow the protection portfolio and meet donor requirements.
• Supervise and mentor the protection team (WPE Manager, PRoL Manager, CP Manager) and build capacity of partners through training and field support.
• Represent IRC in national protection clusters, coordinate with INGOs, LNGOs and government stakeholders, and ensure high‑quality reporting to donors and internal partners.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in social work, human rights, international law, social science or related field.
• 5–7 years of experience implementing at least two protection streams (Child Protection, Women’s Protection & Empowerment, Protection & Rule of Law) in emergency or complex‑emergency contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop donor proposals and manage multi‑grant budgets.
• Fluent spoken and written English.

• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
• Competence with email applications.
