Project Officer – Safeguarding (Nigeria)

About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will support the implementation of safeguarding and accountability mechanisms for the Faith and Community Initiative (FCI) in Nigeria. Working within Catholic Relief Services’ country office, the role ensures that community‑based health system strengthening activities are delivered safely, respectfully and in line with CRS policies.

Key responsibilities

• Implement safeguarding and accountability processes for FCI activities across Nigeria.
• Coordinate with project, MEAL, partner and government teams to integrate safeguarding standards.
• Raise awareness of safeguarding principles among staff, partners and community members.
• Maintain safe reporting channels, track feedback and complaints, and document safeguarding concerns.
• Ensure timely referral and follow‑up of reported cases according to CRS procedures.
• Support the protection of children and vulnerable adults within hub‑and‑spoke health service delivery models.

Required profile

• Nigerian national.
• Experience working in community‑based health or humanitarian programmes.
• Familiarity with safeguarding and accountability frameworks.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders including faith‑based organisations and government bodies.
