Petroleum Laboratory Manager

About the role

The Petroleum Laboratory Manager will lead and coordinate all laboratory activities related to midstream gas and refined petroleum product testing. This senior position ensures accurate, timely results while maintaining ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001 quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead laboratory operations for gas, refined products, and product certification testing.
• Oversee sample receipt, chain of custody, testing, data review, and report authorization.
• Maintain and improve ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
• Supervise QA/QC activities, including method validation, measurement uncertainty, proficiency testing, and internal audits.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
• Manage instrumentation, calibration schedules, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Control laboratory budgeting, procurement, inventory, and resource planning.
• Supervise field sampling and guarantee sample integrity.
• Build, mentor, and manage laboratory personnel, driving competence development.
• Liaise with clients, regulators, accreditation bodies, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Support business development with technical input on proposals and service delivery.
• Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture within the lab.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years experience in a midstream or refined petroleum laboratory, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/management role.
• Experience in upstream oil and gas operations.
• Qualified Internal Auditor certification.
• Proven track record implementing ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 9001:2015 systems.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ASTM, IP, ISO, GPA, UOP and EN analytical test methods.
• Hands‑on experience with gas chromatography, sulphur analyzers, ICP‑OES, Karl Fischer titrators, distillation units, flash point testers, viscometers and density analyzers.
• Method validation, measurement uncertainty assessment, proficiency testing and internal audit execution.
