Petroleum Engineering Graduate Trainee

About the role

This entry‑level position offers recent petroleum engineering graduates the opportunity to work alongside senior engineers on a variety of oil and gas projects in Port Harcourt. You will gain hands‑on experience in drilling, production, and reservoir operations while developing professional skills in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in planning, monitoring, and executing petroleum engineering projects.
• Support drilling, production, reservoir, and well‑operation activities under supervision.
• Participate in field inspections, site visits, and operational assessments.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret engineering and production data.
• Monitor oil and gas production performance and identify optimization opportunities.
• Help with well testing, completion, intervention, and production enhancement tasks.
• Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and operational records.
• Evaluate drilling and production equipment performance.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and HSE standards.
• Collaborate with geologists, drilling engineers, production engineers, and other technical teams.
• Participate in structured training, mentorship programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering (B.Eng. or B.Sc.).
• Completion of NYSC or valid exemption certificate.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience; industrial training or internship is a plus.
• Basic understanding of drilling, reservoir, and production engineering concepts.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Good communication and report‑writing skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with petroleum engineering software such as Petrel, Eclipse, CMG, OFM, Prosper, GAP.
