Permanent Way Engineer – Railway Project

About the role

The company is seeking a Permanent Way Engineer to join the supervision team on the Kano‑Maradi‑Dutse Railway Project. The role involves on‑site supervision of railway track works, ensuring that construction activities meet design, quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Permanent Way Expert / Head of Department in daily site supervision and conduct regular site visits.
• Supervise track laying, turnout and crossover installation in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑welding inspections for Flash Butt Welding (FBW) and Aluminic Thermit Welding (ATW) operations.
• Monitor track parameters such as gauge, cross level, twist and versine and verify compliance with ITPs.
• Oversee ballast distribution, slewing, tamping and stabilization to achieve required track geometry.
• Coordinate inspections and tests with the contractor, client and other departments and compile progress reports.

Required profile

• Proven experience in railway track works and site supervision.
• Strong knowledge of design specifications, quality standards and safety requirements for railway infrastructure.

Required skills

• Track laying and turnout installation.
• Flash Butt Welding (FBW) and Aluminic Thermit Welding (ATW) inspection.
• Track geometry monitoring (gauge, cross level, twist, versine).
• Ballast distribution, slewing, tamping and stabilization techniques.
• De‑stressing procedures for rail at specified temperatures.
