Nutrition Nurse – Acute Malnutrition Management

About the role

The Nutrition Nurse is responsible for managing acute malnutrition in children within a Stabilization Centre (SC) and Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP). The role ensures high‑quality nutrition rehabilitation, treatment of medical complications, and prevention of further deterioration in line with national and international protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, monitor vital signs, and administer medicines according to protocol.
• Prepare and deliver therapeutic feeds and specialized medicines for severely malnourished children.
• Monitor daily nutritional status and update medical and nutritional records.
• Provide nutrition counselling and health education to mothers and caretakers.
• Maintain adequate drug and nutrition supplies, and ensure proper stock positioning.
• Collaborate with the SC doctor and Nutrition Manager on operational issues.
• Compile statistical data, draft activity reports, and maintain supply consumption reports.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a degree from a recognized nursing institute.
• Minimum two years of experience in Community‑Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programmes.
• Valid, current nursing license.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and the required national/local language.
• Strong commitment to the organization’s values and mission.

• Excellent report‑writing ability.
• Proficiency in drug administration protocols (antibiotics, antimalarials, anthelminthics).
• Effective communication for counselling and education.
