Multimedia Journalist

About the role

This role creates a skilled visual journalist who identifies, reports and crafts compelling stories through video, photography and other visual media, supported by writing, audio and digital storytelling expertise. The position turns raw visual potential into high-impact stories across platforms, based on the organization's editorial scope.

Key responsibilities

• Research, pitch and report original stories, spotting characters, scenes and moments that work well on screen
• Conduct interviews and gather accurate, verified information from primary and secondary sources
• Capture high-quality video and photography on location, refining framing, composition, lighting, sound and visual sequencing
• Plan visual narratives with treatments, shot lists, storyboards and production briefs
• Write video scripts, voice overs, captions, headlines and supporting digital copy
• Learn video editing and post-production, including sequencing, sound design, graphics, subtitles and basic colour correction
• Produce short-form and long-form video for social media, digital publications, documentaries and other organizational products
• Work with editors, producers, designers, animators and technology teams, and experiment with animation, data visualization and mobile journalism
• Uphold informed consent, source protection, conflict sensitivity and journalistic ethics, and set up field safety, equipment management and risk assessment
• Analyse audience and editorial feedback to improve clarity and engagement, and move toward independently producing complete visual stories
