Medical Records Officer

About the role

The Medical Records Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of patient medical records at the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE). This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a deep understanding of medical terminology and record‑keeping protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately file, retrieve, and maintain patient medical records in both electronic and paper formats.
• Enter patient demographic and clinical data into the electronic health record (EHR) system and generate related reports.
• Process requests for release of medical information, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular audits of medical records to verify completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
• Provide responsive customer service to patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding records inquiries.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Records Clerk or similar role in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and relevant data‑privacy regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Accurate and efficient typing ability.
