Medical Laboratory Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Accountant to join PEPHLA’s finance team in Port Harcourt. The role combines traditional accounting duties with specialised financial management for a medical laboratory environment, ensuring accurate budgeting, payroll, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage budgets and forecasts for equipment and staffing.
• Oversee payroll for technicians and administrative staff.
• Maintain cash flow tracking and daily ledger entries.
• Ensure compliance with Nigerian statutory and regulatory requirements, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, ITF, NSITF and pension contributions.
• Reconcile and audit receivables from NHIA schemes, private HMOs and corporate retainers, and manage debt recovery.
• Monitor inventory of medical consumables, apply FIFO or weighted‑average costing, and audit for losses due to expired stock.
• Prepare and file all required tax returns and statutory remittances.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA) is an advantage.
• At least two years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical ability and attention to detail.
