Litigation and Commercial Lawyer

About the role

A mid‑tier commercial law firm in Lagos is seeking a hard‑working, intelligent associate to handle litigation and commercial matters. The role reports to the Managing Partner and involves delivering high‑quality legal solutions across a range of sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Receive instructions, organise matters, conduct document review, fact‑finding and thorough legal research.
• Draft court processes, legal documents, trial preparations and provide courtroom advocacy, including appellate practice.
• Communicate daily with clients, supervise paralegals and junior staff, and manage time‑efficient project planning.
• Incorporate companies via the Corporate Affairs Commission portal, file corporate changes, attend board meetings and act as Company Secretary.
• Prepare wills, probate applications and provide private‑client services, liaising with courts and registries.

Required profile

• At least three consecutive years of litigation experience.
• Second‑class upper degree in Law from a recognised university and/or the Nigerian Law School.
• Master’s degree or professional qualifications (Chartered Secretary, Chartered Tax Practitioner, or Associate of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria) are advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, excellent written and oral English, and ability to assess risk.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using the Corporate Affairs Commission portal for company incorporation and filings.
