Legal Manager

About the role

The Legal Manager provides legal leadership and oversight, ensuring the business operates in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies while managing legal risk and supporting transactions and product initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, accurate legal advice on transactions, products and operational matters and ensure compliance with company law, securities regulation, AML, CFT and sanctions.
• Identify, assess and manage legal risks at country and business level, preparing risk reports and recommending mitigation strategies.
• Support implementation of Group legal and risk policies, partner with Risk and Compliance, and engage regulators and governance forums.
• Deliver legal support for transactions and product development, ensuring effective turnaround times, quality delivery and strong controls.
• Manage external counsel relationships, negotiate fees and drive cost discipline by building internal legal capability.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a legal role, preferably within financial services, banking or a regulated environment.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent; admission to the Nigerian Bar as Solicitor and Advocate.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, governance and legal risk management.
• Experience advising on transactions, products and business initiatives.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, analytical skills and high ethical standards.
