Legal Librarian

About the role

The Legal Librarian will manage the firm’s legal information resources, ensuring that lawyers and staff have seamless access to statutes, case law, journals, and research tools. This role supports the firm’s ability to deliver high‑quality legal services by maintaining an up‑to‑date, well‑organized collection of both print and digital materials.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a collection development strategy aligned with the firm’s practice areas.
• Source, negotiate, and manage subscriptions to legal databases, law reports, journals, and textbooks covering Nigerian and relevant international law.
• Track inventory, catalog and classify materials using standard library systems, and maintain the physical collection in good condition.
• Provide research support to lawyers and staff, using both print and online sources, and create research guides for self‑service.
• Set and enforce library policies, run day‑to‑day operations including lending and interlibrary loans, and report on usage and activity.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science.
• Valid registration with the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN); a Master’s degree is a plus.
• Experience working in a law‑firm library or similar environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with library management software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Solid understanding of Nigerian legal resources and research methods.
