Legal & Compliance Associate

About the role

The Legal & Compliance Associate will support Nomba’s legal, regulatory and compliance functions, ensuring that all business activities align with Nigerian laws, fintech regulations and internal policies. Reporting to the Head of Legal, Risk & Compliance, the role blends legal advisory work with hands‑on compliance execution in a fast‑moving financial‑technology environment.

Key responsibilities

• Handle regulatory and compliance matters, monitoring obligations and supporting implementation of new requirements.
• Prepare and submit periodic compliance and regulatory reports to internal management and authorities.
• Develop and deliver compliance awareness programmes and training for employees.
• Liaise with law‑enforcement agencies, regulators and government bodies on investigations and enquiries.
• Manage customer disputes, providing legal support to resolve complaints and mitigate risk.
• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on commercial agreements such as service, vendor and partnership contracts.
• Monitor changes in laws and regulations, assess impact and recommend actions.
• Support internal investigations, audits and regulatory examinations.

Required profile

• 5‑8 years post‑qualification experience in legal and compliance, preferably within fintech or a regulated financial services institution.
• Qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with an LL.B and completion of the Nigerian Law School.
• Strong understanding of Nigerian financial services regulation, corporate law, contract law and data‑protection requirements.
• Proven experience engaging with regulators, law‑enforcement agencies and handling regulatory reporting.
• Excellent legal research, analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with clear written and verbal communication.
