About the role
The HVAC Officer will ensure optimal performance, maintenance, and functionality of all heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems across the new African Medical Centre of Excellence. This role supports a safe, comfortable, and regulatory‑compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors in critical areas such as operating rooms, oncology wards, and intensive care units.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance of chillers, boilers, air handlers, and ventilation systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot temperature, airflow, and equipment failures, implementing corrective actions promptly.
- Maintain indoor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, air pressure) in surgical suites, oncology wards, and diagnostic labs.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as ASHRAE 170 and local building codes, collaborating with infection‑control teams.
- Monitor energy consumption via the building management system, recommending and implementing efficiency upgrades (VRF, smart thermostats, energy‑recovery ventilators).
- Develop and execute emergency response plans for HVAC failures, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors.
Required profile
- HND/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years experience operating and maintaining HVAC systems in a healthcare environment.
- Strong analytical and diagnostic abilities, with project‑management experience for system upgrades.
- Professional attitude aligned with AMCE’s vision, proactive, organized, and capable of inspiring confidence among staff.
Required skills
- Proficiency with HVAC diagnostic tools and management software.
- Experience using Building Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring and optimization.
- Knowledge of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems and energy‑recovery ventilators.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE 170, NFPA standards, and local healthcare facility codes.
- Ability to manage spare‑part inventories and coordinate with external contractors.
